The aforementioned family club room is in the process of being redecorated in an Oklahoma State Cowboys theme. Orange and Black are the predominate colors and Pistol Pete and other University paraphernalia adorn the walls and fill the shelves. The Flame design was orange and black to match, but once shot down my thoughts turned to OSU and Pistol Pete.
Form should follow function, but in a nod to the Tempest cab that started all this, I started working on a design that kept the orange neon (now dedicated to Pete and Cowboys, and pulled back a little) and drew from the graphics on the Tempest cab.
The design layers orange neon tubes outlining controls and defining spaces (as well as depicting Pistol Pete) on top of altered art from an original Tempest cab. In each piece the Tempest graphics are altered to fit the new space and then reduced to B&W before being converted to a half-tone screen (dots of various sizes to simulate continuous tone from whte to black.) The half-tone is then screened back and overlayed with the neon in effect “repurposing” the old art. In this way, both the OSU orange and balck theme and the retro Tempest theme can coexist on the same cab.
