What Is Old Is New

What I love about the old arcade games is that they are constantly renewing themselves. When I started the Cowboy Arcade, two of my children were 5 and 7. They were interested but not able to help much.Fast forward a decade and a half and they are almost graduated with a degree in MIS and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, respectively. Along the way they helped me get the old Cowboy arcade “finished” and running, for the most part.

Also along the way the engineer decided he wanted his own. So recently we started planning and then making him a MAME machine in a replica TAITO cab that we are building. Everything has moved forward and now we have access to (and mastery of) Solidworks for 3D modeling (I drew all my plans in 2D), CNC router table, and computers that fit in the palm of your hand and run Unix (infinitely better than Microsoft Windows.)

So, in keeping with the theme of renewal, I decide to resurrect the site and document this new build. AND…. I decided to build a new cab for myself. Still a Tempest cab, but really a Tempest cab this time instead of the larger, multiplayer, one of everything plus the kitchen sink (well, cup holders) cab that was the original Cowboy Arcade.

This should be fun….
